Saved by the Bell
Saved by the Bell was a popular teen sitcom which ran from 1989 to 1993 and built a large, loyal fanbase. Its original incarnation, Good Morning, Miss Bliss (1987), starred Hayley Mills as the good-natured Miss Carrie Bliss who oversaw later Saved by the Bell cast Lark Voorhies, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and Dustin Diamond as well as other students. Good Morning, Miss Bliss would later be retitled Saved by the Bell.

Gosselaar became a teen idol, making the cover of Tiger Beat and a number of other teen publications while Tiffani-Amber Thiessen became a teenage sex symbol for the show's male viewers.

The show was extremely popular, to the extent that when the show ended with the main characters graduating from high school, that NBC created a spin-off called Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which featured a new set of characters anchored by Dennis Haskins and later Dustin Diamond, who's character Screech became Principal Belding's personal assistant. While Saved by the Bell: The New Class ran for seven seasons, it suffered numerous cast changes (including second season cast purge that only left Haskins and three other cast members as returning cast members) and never gained the popularity of the original Saved by the Bell.

Saved by the Bell may be most remarkable among its genre for having three actors, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and Elizabeth Berkley, go on to enjoy greater success as older actors. Gosselaar and Thiessen landed jobs on established prime time drama shows like NYPD Blue and Beverly Hills 90210. Berkley went on to pursue a movie career, a career that sadly died before it could begin due to Berkley's decision to star in mid-90s flop Showgirls. Dustin Diamond, Lark Vorhiees, and Mario Lopez have also enjoyed marginal success after Saved by the Bell.
