Sandy Cohen

Sanford "Sandy" Cohen is a fictional character on the FOX series The O.C.. He is played by an actor Peter Gallagher.

Sandy, a lawyer, is married to Kirsten Cohen. Their only child, Seth Cohen, is a somewhat geeky older teenager. When the first season starts, Sandy takes the case of Ryan Atwood, who had stolen a car with his brother. He ends up adopting Ryan, accepting him into the family. Later, in the second season, he also allows Trey Atwood, his brother, to stay with them.

Sandy has a good, steady marriage with Kirsten; though they go through some problems, they always work them out. One of these situations was when he took a case to try and help his old girlfriend, Rebecca Bloom, to clear her name. Quite obviously, Kirsten wasn't happy about this. However, they soon worked it out after Rebecca left, unable to cope with the damage she was doing to their marriage.

Sandy Cohen is a good, understanding character who often helps his son and Ryan through their problems that they experience throughout the series, or at least making light of the situation, which makes him an invaluable character in The O.C.
