House swap May-June 09 York, England for San Mateo area (san mateo)
House-swap wanted, May-June 09 Have you dreamt of taking time exploring England at a leisurely pace? With the dollar at a 5-year high against the pound, this could be the perfect time. Have you considered a house-swap? We are looking to exchange our house in York, England for one around San Mateo, California, in May-June of 2009. (Redwood City, San Carlos, Redwood Shores, Belmont, Foster City, Burlingame would do.) Description of our house We have a spacious modern home in a traditional style, >1600sq.ft. of living area, plus a lovely walled garden - fresh plums from the trees if you come at the right time! There is a master bedroom with twin beds and en suite bathroom, a double bedroom and a single bedroom/computer room with broadband. We have a large lounge with television a conservatory/sunroom, a music room with two pianos, formal dining room and large kitchen with breakfast table. The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood, just 2km outside the medieval town walls, and a few minutes walk from farmland with public footpaths. About our neighbourhood York is a beautiful, historical city with excellent museums (Vikings, Romans, Railway and Victorian), Roman remains, medieval walls, archeological digs currently in progress and the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. The Yorkshire Moors National Park is half an hour's drive away and the Yorkshire Dales, Bronte country, Harrogate Spa town and the East coast are all under 80 minutes away. London and Edinburgh are just 2 hours away by train. We can put you in touch with friendly walking groups, church communities, and recommend local gyms. There is a golf course within walking distance. You may use our two bicycles and there is a good local bus service. May and June is a great time to visit York – the weather is mostly pretty good by then, but the town isn’t yet crowded with tourists. About us I am a recently retired schoolteacher and my husband is a retired senior Fire Officer. Our son, living in San Mateo, California, is helping co-ordinate the house-swap. We plan to stay in that area from March to August 2009 so that we can help with baby-minding our new grandchild. We now have accommodation lined up for most of that time – we just need to arrange a house-swap for May and June.
