San Francisco Art Institute

The San Francisco Art Institute is a famous art school in San Francisco, California. It has earned itself a reputation for attracting students aligned more to the avant-garde than to commercial art, and is also more notoriously known as a school where "anything goes". Stories such as that of Jonathan Yegge's 2000 performance contribute to this reputation. In his own words,

"He was tied up. He had a blindfold and a gag, but he could see and talk through it. He had freedom of movement of his pelvis," Yegge says, by way of defending his piece. "I engaged in oral sex with him and he engaged in oral sex with me. I had given him an enema, and I had taken a shit and stuffed it in his ass. That goes on, he shits all over me, I shit in him. There was a security guard present. There was an instructor from the school present. It was videoed, and the piece was over."

This story made the cover of the SF Weekly (see below, Public Enema No. 2) and even attracted the attention of Howard Stern, who reportedly offered $1,000 on the air for a copy of the video tape.
