San Benito is a city located in Cameron County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 23,444.
Geography
San Benito is located at 26°8'12" North, 97°38'9" West (26.136603, -97.635878){{GR|1}}.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.0 km² (11.2 mi²). 28.5 km² (11.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.87% water.

It should be noted that San Benito is also known as "The Resaca City", due to it's many resacas (a former tributary of the Rio Grande, which has been cut off for irrigation purposes). Also it is home to Dick Welch Park.
