San Andres Mountains

The San Andres Mountains is a mountain range in the state of New Mexico of the United States, in the counties of Socorro, Sierra, and Doņa Ana. Some sources consider the San Andres Mountains to be a portion of the Rocky Mountains. The mountains cover an area of 4,798 square miles (12,427 square kilometers), extending 127 miles (205 km) north to south and 66 miles (105 km) east to west. It is the parent mountain range of the Oscura Mountains and Organ Mountains, and a portion of the range runs parallel to the Rio Grande. The highest peak is the Organ Needle, at 8,980 feet (2,737 m). The mountains are dry and barren, and lie almost entirely within the White Sands Missile Range.
