Sammy Sieger
Samuel (Sammy) Sieger (1899-1986) was a American featherweight-super featherweight boxer from 1920 to 1924. He was born on July 1, 1899, in New York, New York. In 39 fights, seven of which were at Madison Square Garden, in New York City, he had 22-wins, 11-loses, and 4-draws.

His fights included: a loss on April 12, 1920, aginst Joe Burman at the Grand Theatre in Trenton, New Jersey; a win at the Commonwealth in New York City against Dick Loadman, October 15, 1920; a draw against Joe Gorman at Madison Square Garden, on October 28, 1921, in which both men were knocked down; and a win over Babe Herman (boxer) (Herman J. Sousa) at the Pioneer Activity Center in New York City, March 20, 1923, in which, according to the New York Times, a forfeit was claimed for Sieger being overweight by Herman's manager, Dan McKetrick. The Sieger-Herman , just six-weeks later on May 1, 1923, had Sieger being knocked-out two-minutes and 50-seconds into a fight held again at the Pioneer. Herman knocked Sieger down three times before the knock-out came.

Sammy Sieger ultimately abandoned his wife, Rose Sieger (1901-1973), and his two children but continued to work at the New York Daily News, where his son, Marvin Sieger (born in 1925), followed in his father's and his uncle (one of Sammy's brothers)'s footsteps at the tabloid for 44 years until official retirement. His daughter, Constance Dodge (1927-1994), was a successful businesswoman until her death at 66 from cancer.

Sam Sieger died at the age of 86 of natural causes, at a home for the aged in Riverdale, The Bronx, New York City in January 1986, without ever knowing his three grandchildren.
