Sacking of Lawrence
In the summer of 1856, the first sacking of Lawrence sparked a guerrilla war in Kansas that was conducted for months. Here, as later in the history of Kansas, proslavery forces attacked Lawrence. In the fall of 1863, the second sacking of Lawrence was conducted by William Quantrill.
