Russell's comedy focuses largely around his Indian upbringing, as he often satirizes his parents and the South Asian culture as a whole. Much of his material explores the cultural divides between many different ethnicities and upbringings in a way that is rarely offensive and includes many hilarious impressions. He explores race in a way that is fresh and creative. He also has excellent imitations of voices of people of different cultures. In the United States, a great deal of his popularity has stemmed from his 45-minute video that has been circulated on the Internet.
