Rushen Abbey
Rushen Abbey was a Cistercian abbey on the Isle of Man, located between Castletown and Ballasalla. It was founded in the 12th century and dissolved in the 16th (see dissolution of the monasteries). In the early 1900s, the abbey ruins became a popular tourist destination, famous for the strawberries and cream served in its gardens. After falling into disrepair since World War II, the abbey was aquired by the Manx National Heritage in May 1998, and restorations have now been made.
