Then the river forms the southern edge of the Ruhr area, flowing through Hagen, Dortmund, Herdecke, Wetter (Ruhr), Witten, Bochum, Hattingen, Essen, M?lheim and Duisburg. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Ruhr crosses five lakes on its way to the Rhine: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It is located in the middle of the Sauerland, at the source of the Ruhr and Lenne river, at . Population: 14,676 (2002). Area: 148 km². It belongs to the district Hochsauerland.... Sauerland: The Sauerland is a rural hilly area spreading across most of the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, heavily forested and sparsely inhabited.
