Rugby League State of Origin
State of Origin is a series of three interstate rugby league matches between the Queensland Maroons (pronounced Muh-RONEs) and the New South Wales Blues, played annually.

The State of Origin series of today is one of Australia's biggest sporting events, and highest rating television programs, and is played to sell out crowds over three matches.

Players are selected according to which of the two States they first played. Before 1980 — when the first trial match was held — players were selected for interstate matches based on the location of their current team. The first full series was played in 1982.
