Roy (Fire Emblem)
Roy is a fictional swordfighter from the Fire Emblem series of video games. His only appearance in the games has been in Fire Emblem 6: The Sword of Seals. His father is Eliwood, who is the hero of Fire Emblem 7: Blazing Sword, the first Fire Emblem game to be released outside Japan as the Game Boy Advance game Fire Emblem in the US. Roy begins as a "Lord" class and, near the end of Fire Emblem 6: The Sword of Seals, set out to defend their country against the invading country of Bern. Roy is also the only character that can wield the Sword of Seals.

Roy also appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where he is one of four swordfighters in the game, along with Link, Young Link and fellow Fire Emblem veteran Marth. In order to unlock Roy in the game, you must complete a story mode with Marth, after which Roy will appear and you must defeat him. He is essentially a clone of Marth, in that his moves are (with one exception) identical to Marth's; he wields the Sword of Seals. His B-button special attacks are stronger than Marth's, but every other attack is weaker, including his Smash attacks. Roy's "sweet spot" is in the middle of his blade, whereas Marth's is at the tip. And he is much worse at aerial combat than Marth. These differences are enough to push him down to a mid-tier position.
