Rorschach (band)

Rorschach were a New Jersey-based band that existed from 1989 to 1993, and blended Hardcore and Metal to create what is now known as metalcore and played a significant role in shaping of the genre and it's aesthetic as it exists today. Often cited as the progenators of the genre, they influenced other bands to also play this style, including luminaries Converge.

The first release by the band, Remain Sedate, shows the bands sound at a stage when they played fast heavy hardcore with a metal slant, with socio-political lyrics, with raspy hardcore vocals. However, as the band progressed, they developed a more sinister, slower, grinding sound that was a lot more metal influenced but still had Hardcore breakdowns. Also, the vocals developed into high-pitched tortured screaming rather than shouting. This change in sound can be heard primarily on thier second full-length release, Protestant.
