Ronaldsway airport

Ronaldsway Airport (IOM / EGNS) is the main civilian airport of the Isle of Man. It is located in the south of the Island near to King William's College. Regular destinations from Ronaldsway include various regional and international airports in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and France.

Ronaldsway was constructed as a grass-strip airfied in 1934 for passenger flights to the UK. In 1939 it was taken over by the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom owing to the outbreak of the Second World War. The airfield was known as RNAS Ronaldsway with the station being called HMS Urley; the Manx Gaelic world for eagle. In 1942 RNAS Ronaldsway was taken over by the Admiralty and used by the Fleet Air Arm as a training base. In 1946, after hostilities had ended the aerodrome was returned to civiliam usage, and remains in that use to this day.

Today the airport operates several airlines, including its largest, EuroManx; the Isle of Man's home airline. The Isle of Man Freeport is located at Ronaldsway along with the Manx Military and Aviation Museum.
