Ron receives his O.W.L. grades. He only fails in History of Magic and Divination but receives no 'Outstandings'. At Hogwarts, Hermione makes an offhand comment about how Harry has "never been more fanciable", also saying "it doesn't hurt that you've grown about a foot over the summer", attempting to explain to Harry that the reason so many people have turned out for Quidditch tryouts is not to see the tryouts but to see him--that it's Harry who is suddenly more popular, not Quidditch. In response, Ron says "I'm tall." Hermione ignores him. When the trio pass Parvati and Lavender, Parvati nudges Lavender, who smiles at Ron. He smiles back uncertainly and Hermione becomes colder and more distant, not even wishing him 'good luck' in the trials!
