Rolls-Royce Merlin

The Merlin was a 12 cylinder, 60° "V", 27 litre, liquid cooled piston aircraft engine built during World War II by Rolls-Royce. It was one of the two or three best aero engines in the world at that time, and powered many of the most notable warplanes.

The Merlin name came from the bird (a small falcon also known as "pigeon hawk") rather than King Arthur's legendary magician.
