Rod Smith (NFL football)
Roderick "Rod" Smith (born May 15, 1970, in Texarkana, Arkansas) is an American football player who currently plays wide receiver for the Denver Broncos of the NFL. Interestingly, he played quarterback and not wide receiver at Missouri Southern State University. He was signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 1994 and is the only undrafted free agent ever to have 10,000 career receiving yards. He is ranked 20th in NFL history in career receptions and 24th all time in receiving yards. Smith has also had seven 1000 yard seasons in ten years as an NFL player and led the league in receptions in 2001. He won back to back Super Bowl championships in 1997 and 1998. In Super Bowl XXXIII he had 152 receiving yards caught 1 touchdown. The Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist holds franchise records in career receptions, touchdown catches and receiving yards. He ranks first on Denvers all-time yards from scrimmage list and is one of only seven players in NFL history to record back-to-back 100-catch seasons (2000-01).
High School Career
At Texarkana High School in Texarkana,Arkansas,Rod Smith lettered two years in football,and basketball,and one year in baseball.As a senior,in football,he was an All-League,All-Area,All-State,and an Arkansas All-State game choice.
