Robert Ford (outlaw)

Robert Ford was an outlaw hired along with his brother by the infamous Jesse James to assist in a bank robbery. Unfortunately for James, the Ford brothers' plan was not to rob the bank, but to collect the $10,000 reward on James's head. Robert Ford shot James in the back of the head, instantly killing him. Ford was dismayed to find that instead of receiving a reward, he was compensated with a small percentage and a charge of first degree murder. Ford was later pardoned by the governor of Missouri but known for the rest of his life as a traitor. Robert Ford himself was murdered some years later in a barfight.
