Ring Lardner
Ring Lardner (March 6, 1885 - September 27, 1933) was a sports columnist and short story writer best known for his satirical takes on the sports world, marriage, and the theatre. Born Ringgold Wilmer Lardner in Niles, Michigan, from adolescence his ambition was to become a sports reporter, an ambition he fulfilled in 1907 by getting a position on the Chicago Inter-Ocean. He was editor of Sporting News in St. Louis in 1910 and 1911 he contributed columns to the Boston American, Chicago American and others until 1919 when he joined a syndicate.
