Richard Moore, known in Japan as Kogoro Mori (毛利 小五郎 Mōri Kogorō) is a character from the detective manga and anime series "Case Closed", known in Japan as "Detective Conan".

Richard is just like your typical good-for-nothing detective who always lazed around and trys to peep at anything 'a-child-should-not-see'. Ten years ago, he was a prominent police officer under Inspector Meguire (Inspector Juzo Megure). He left the police force after events addressed in the 2nd Detective Conan Film. While he is never outright called an alcoholic, Richard has a tendency to get intoxicated at social events, and Jimmy/Conan makes sarcastic remarks about him spending much of his money on alcohol. In the anime, on practically every night, his office is littered with empty beer cans, and he keeps a well-stocked liquor shelf.

Richard is infatuated with Yoko Akino, and never misses a chance to meet her if he can. Occasianly he will become infatuated with other woman, and behave in a way that embaresses his daughter.

Richard's daughter, Rachel Moore (Ran Mori), is also the daughter of Eva Kadan (Eri Kisaki), who is now living separately after a misunderstood fight ten years ago (The 14th Target). Despite constantly feigning disinterest in her, Richard still has feelings for his wife--he has even asked her to move back in with him (she pretended not to hear him because she is not "ready" yet).

As the plot unfolds, there are times when Kogoro is actually able to solve crime cases without the help of Conan.

The name "Kogoro Mori" came from two mystery-related sources. "Kogoro" came from "Kogoro Akechi", the detective created by Edogawa Rampo, while Mori came from Maurice Leblanc.
