Endowment and cost
Rice University possesses an endowment of $3 billion, which amounts to over $600,000 per student, ranks amongst the top 15 in the United States http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0112636.html. Being relatively generous with these funds allows the university to charge lower tuition, room, and board than at most other prestigious private universities. Rice has recently been ranked first among 1,600 private universities for "Best College Value" in Kiplinger's Personal Finance and first for "least amount of debt per graduate" by U.S. News and World Report.
