~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A rhyme is a repetition of identical or similar sounds in two or more different words and is most often used in poetry. The term usually refers to the repetition of sounds at the end of rhymed words: in the following poem by A.E. Housman, the words or syllables in bold are rhymes: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ :Loveliest of trees, the cherry now ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ :Is hung with bloom along the bough, ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ :And stands about the woodland ride ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ :Wearing white for Eastertide. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Rhyme" may also refer to a complete rhyming couplet or short poem that uses verses (see nursery rhyme). As "sight rhyme", it refers to words which are identical only in their written forms: for example "love" and move". ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
