Reus

Reus is the capital of the comarca of Baix Camp, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, located at 117 metres above the sea. Population in 1997 was 90,993 and in 2005 has been 100,000.

Reus is a very commercial city with a town spirit. The people from Reus have been known during the last years as open-minded people which are very proud to live in their cities.

The area has always been an important producer of wines and spirits, and gained continental importance in times of the Phylloxera plague.

Tourism in Reus

In recent years tourism in Reus as expanded as more and more people flock to the Costa Dorada for their summer holidays or some winter sun.

Recently the airport at Reus has started to receive low cost flights from Ryanair who are flying into Reus from four different Europ?an locations. From Reus Airport you can easily reach the resort town of Salou and one of Europes biggest theme parks at Port Aventura.

Flag of Reus

The first flag of Reus was in use after 1774 and until 1943. The flag was dark red with the arms in center.

In 1943 the red seemed to be associated with the leftist defeated in the civil war (1936-39) and then was changed. As the historic arms were argent with a heraldic rose, the new flag was white with a heraldic rose in the center. Minor variations of the rose in the flag were produced after 1943.

Currently the rose has a new version, that is take from the city emblem. The emblem is official and is supposed that the flag also must be, but this remain unconfirmed by the local governement.
