Reuben Samuel

Dr. Reuben Samuel (12 January, 1828 - 1 March, 1908) Was the stepfather of American Outlaws Frank James and Jesse James.

Frank and Jesse's mother, Zeralda had quite a hard life, she married Robert James at the age of 16, and was widowed by the age of 25, by the age of 30 she was married again, to Dr. Samuel.

Reuben was the son of Fielding and Louisa Samuel, he was 27 years old when he married Zeralda, he took on her three children, Frank, Jesse, and Susan.

In September 1862 Perry Samuel was born to one of the slave girls, it was never known who the biological father was but it was widely believed that Dr.Samuel was.

After a raid on the James farm (in which he was battered very badly) Dr.Samuel became mentally unstable and spent his last years in the Missouri state mental hospital.
