Retina
The retina is a thin layer of cells at the back of the eyeball of vertebrates and some cephalopods; it is the part of the eye which converts light into nervous signals.
Retinal anatomy
The human retina has ten distinct layers:

- Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)
- Photoreceptor layer
- External limiting membrane - Layer of the retina that separates the inner segment portions of the photoreceptors from their cell nuclei.
- Outer nuclear layer
- Outer plexiform layer - In the macular region, this is known as the Fiber layer of Henle.
- Inner nuclear layer
- Inner plexiform layer
- Ganglion cell layer
- Nerve fiber layer
- Inner limiting membrane
