The Republican Revolution refers to the 1994 take-over of the United States Congress by the Republican Party, following interim elections in the House and Senate. This was associated with an influx of very conservative freshman Republican Representatives under the command of Newt Gingrich, a powerful Speaker of the House. The new Republican legislative majorities adopted sweeping conservative policies.
