Red Guards
Red Guards referred to socialist or communist militia formed to instigate, support or defend revolutions. They were made up of armed workers as well as soldiers who defected, mutineed or had been decommissioned from the state's military. The Red Guards in China were composed of students and formed during the conflict within factions of the Chinese Communist Party during the Cultural Revolution.
