ReCycle (program)

ReCycle is a music loop editor designed and developed by Swedish software developers Propellerhead Software. It runs on Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh based PCs.

The idea behind ReCycle is that you should be able to change the tempo of music loops without changing the pitch or otherwise altering the sound of the original loop. ReCycle does this by chopping up a single loop into a series of seperate "beats" or "hits", allowing you to play the loop back at a different speed but having the exact same sound for the individual sounds playing.

Propellerhead developed their own file format known as REX2 for this software, and has now become the standard for music loops.

Propellerhead's Reason has it's own specialised REX2 playing device called the Dr.REX Loop Player. This device can play the individual loop samples when requested or simply play the entire loop in sequence.
