Ramsø

Rams? is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Roskilde County on the island of Zealand (Sj?lland) in east Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 76 km?, and has a total population of 9,320 (2005). Its mayor is Poul Lindor Nielsen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Viby Sj?lland. Other towns in the municipality are Gadstrup, Skalstrup, Snoldelevand, and ?rsted.

Neighboring municipalities are Solr?d to the east, Greve to the northeast, Roskilde to the north, Lejre to the north and west, and Skovbo to the south.

The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:

• ?rsted Parish

By January 1, 2007 Rams? municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Gunds? and Roskilde municipalities to form the new Roskilde municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 212 km? and a total population of 79,441 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Sj?lland ("Zealand Region").
