Rødby

Rødby is a municipality (Danish, kommune) on the island of Lolland in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 120 km², and has a total population of 6,590 (2005). Its mayor is Hans Ole Sørensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Rødby.

Neighboring municipalities are Holeby to the east,

Nysted Maribo and Højreby to the north, and Rudbjerg to the west. To the south is the Fehmarn Belt, the strait which separates the German island of Fehmarn from Lolland.

By January 1, 2007 Rødby municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Holeby, Højreby, Maribo, Nakskov, Ravnsborg, and Rudbjerg municipalities to form the new Lolland municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 892 km² and a total population of 49,469 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region").
