Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn (92 BBY - 32 BBY) is a Jedi Master, the mentor of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and was once the padawan of Count Dooku in the fictional Star Wars universe. Liam Neeson plays Qui-Gon in ' and does a voice-over as Qui-Gon in '.
Overview
Qui-Gon is a major character in The Phantom Menace, when he and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent as ambassadors to Naboo to broker a resolution in a dispute between that planet and the Trade Federation, which never takes place, though, as they must fight their way through droid troopers. After rescuing Jar Jar Binks and Queen Amidala and escaping to Tatooine with a damaged starship, they meet Anakin Skywalker, at the time a young slave boy with an extraordinary talent for podracing that Qui-Gon discovers is due to his alignment with the Force. They free him and receive the part they need for their ship in a stake deftly based on a podrace, but meet opposition in the form of the Sith Lord Darth Maul before leaving the desert world. Having previously learned of Anakin's record-level midi-chlorian count, Qui-Gon Jinn is convinced that he is the Chosen One and opposes the Jedi Council by training the young Skywalker as a Jedi. The two Jedi are then dispatched to protect the Queen and learn the identity of their attacker.

Qui-Gon is known as a maverick amongst the Jedi Order (at the end of Episode I, Yoda tells Obi-Wan Kenobi "Qui-Gon's defiance I sense in you") probably due to influence from his former master, Count Dooku. In the film, it is suggested by Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon could be a member of the Jedi Council if he were to heed the advice of that body, however Qui-Gon was not interested in becoming a member of the Jedi Council as much as he was in preserving it. Some believe that Darth Sidious ordered Darth Maul to execute Qui-Gon because he posed the biggest threat to the Dark Lord. Qui-Gon is Darth Sidious's anthesis; Sidious revealed that he can save or even create lives, while Qui-Gon found a way to live on past his death, becoming one with the Force.
