Despite Queensland having produced many outstanding cricketers over history - such as Allan Border, Ian Healy, Craig McDermott and Carl Rackemann - the state had never won the four-day national tournament (known at the time as the Sheffield Shield) until Stuart Law led them to success in the 1994-95 season. Since that time, Queensland has been particularly strong in that competition and has continued to produce many talented players such as Matthew Hayden, Andrew Symonds, Michael Kasprowicz and Jimmy Maher.
