Queens Gardens, Brisbane, Queensland


 

Queens Gardens was established in its present form in 1963, after the buildings which had occupied the area had been demolished. Queens Gardens was named after the statue of Queen Victoria (which was unveiled in 1906 and which is located in the gardens in front of the old Executive Building).

There is also a statue of Thomas Joseph Ryan (Scholar - Jurist - Statesman), who was Premier of Queensland (1915 - 1919), in the gardens, as well as a Royal Australian Air Force memorial.

Queens Gardens is located on a city block between George Street, Elizabeth Street and William Street, Brisbane. On the opposide side of William Street is the old State Library of Queensland - and on the opposite side of Elizabeth Street is the old Treasury Building.
