The show ran on radio from 1945 to 1957. It was adapted for local TV in 1952 and lasted as a daytime game show for NBC and ABC from 1956 to 1964. Both the radio and TV shows were hosted by Jack Bailey, who on each show had four women from the audience tell why they would like to be "Queen for a Day". The studio audience used an "applause meter" to pick the winner. While wearing a crown and a red velvet robe, the new queen was presented with gifts and trips and a night on the town with her husband or escort.
