The word "punter" has several possible meanings in English: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ - In colloquial British English, a term that is analgous to a customer of a business. This usage has its roots as a derogatory reference to amateur horse-racing gamblers, but is now neutrally applied as a collective term for customers of any business.
- Someone who stands on a boat and uses a long pole to move it forward (see Punt (boat)).
- A player in American football who kicks the ball - usually resulting in the opposing team gaining possession - in certain specific circumstances, e.g. if his team is unable to amass ten or more yards in four downs (see Punt (football)).
