Poi Dog Pondering
Poi Dog Pondering is a band based in Chicago, Illinois. It was formed in the mid-1980s and revolves around the music of lead singer-songwriter Frank Orrall.
Music
Poi Dog Pondering's first two albums were the eponymous "Poi Dog Pondering" and "Wishing like a mountain, thinking like the sea". Many of the songs on these albums alter the traditional verse-chorus structure of modern music. In some songs, lyrical verses are connected by melodic interludes, featuring a tin whistle, violin, trumpet, or some other instrument in the Poi Dog menagerie. Many songs follow the sequence - verse, interlude, verse, chorus, interlude. Some polynesian influences are present ("Aloha Honolulu", written by bass player Bruce Hughes, and the introduction to "Circle round the sun"). Later, the influence of house music became more apparent.
