Pocket protector
A pocket protector is a plastic sheath designed to hold pens, pencils and other small tools including screwdrivers and small slide rules. The sheath and its contents slip inside the wearer's top shirt pocket. A pocket protector helps prevent the pens from staining the wearer's shirt and from wearing holes in the pocket.

In many news stories featuring NASA engineers and scientists you will see men featuring short back and sides haircuts, "Buddy Holly" style eye glasses and short-sleeved white shirts with pocket protectors. Pocket protectors are usually white, to match the wearers shirt, and sometimes feature advertising messages and company logos http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~squadron/pocketp.gif.
