Pittston
A small city located between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The city was a major coal mining town during the early 20th century. The Pittston Company, the owner of Brinks, was founded in Pittston in 1838. The area has a high concentration of Italian-Americans. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Pittston (properly pronounced pits-ton) is a 3rd class city located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It gained prominence in the 19th and 20th centuries as an active coal mining city, but has struggled economically since the 1960s. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,104.
