Piero della Francesca

Piero della Francesca (c. 1420 - October 12, 1492) was an Italian artist whose work was characterized by its humanism and its mathematical form, particularly in relation to perspective and foreshortening. Late in life he wrote a treatise, De prospectiva pingendi, on the rules of mathematical foreshortening applied to any object, be it a cube or human head. He is considered one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance. Most of his life was spent in Arezzo and his hometown, Borgo San Sepolcro in Tuscany. He studied under Domenico Veneziano in Florence.
