Piedmont Sanatorium
Piedmont Sanatorium was a rest home for tubercular blacks in Burkeville, Virginia from 1917 to 1965. It was the first facility of its kind ever to be established in the United States. The Sanatorium later became the site of Piedmont Geriatric Hospital.
