Philippine mahogany
Philippine mahogany is a popular designation for wood in one of the trade groups of the timbers yielded by Shorea. This is a genus in the family Dipterocarpaceae, with an area of distribution in South East Asia. The genus yields several trade groups, varying from very light in color and weight to very heavy and brick red. One of these trade groups superficially resembles mahogany and is traded as Philipine mahogany, no matter where it originates.
