Perspective Records

Perspective Records was launched in 1991 by the highly successful producing team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Thanks to their long and prosperous relationship with A&M Records, and several of its acts (most notably Janet Jackson), A&M agreed to back the new label. Acts on the roster included Bobby Ross Avila, Smooth, Mint Condition, Lo-Key, Sounds Of Blackness and Ann Nesby.

Although achieving substantial success with some of its acts, Perspective often sat in the shadows of Jam & Lewis's "competing" producing team LA Ried and Babyface's boutique label, LaFace Records.

In 1996, Jam and Lewis stepped down as CEO's, but remained consultants for the label. In 1999, Perspective Records was absorbed into A&M Records during the merger of its parent company PolyGram and Universal Music Group.
