Persian Jews
The Persian Jews are a group of ancient Jewish communities living throughout the former greatest extents of the Persian Empire, originally from ancient Israel. Persian Jews have been in Iran for about 2700 years. Today, the largest community of Persian Jews outside Israel (100,000) and the United States (45,000) (especially Los Angeles) are the approximately 11,000 Jews living today mostly in Tehran and Hamedan in Iran (There are, however, smaller communities in Western Europe). A number of groups of Persian Jews have split off since ancient times, to the extent that they are recognized as separate communities today, such as the Bukharan Jews and Mountain Jews.
