Perlis, (Jawi:بيرلس) in full Perlis Indera Kayangan, is the smallest state in Malaysia. It lies at the northern part of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and has Thailand on its northern border.

The population was estimated as 198,335 in the year 2000. The ethnic breakdown was Malay (166,200 or 78%), Chinese (24,000, or 17%), Indian (3,700), Other (5,400), Other bumiputra (600).

The capital of Perlis is Kangar and the royal capital is Arau. Another important town is Padang Besar, at the Malaysian-Thai border. The main port is the small village of Kuala Perlis. Perlis has a snake farm and Gua Kelam as tourist attractions, as well as the small yet beautiful Taman Negara Perlis state park.
