Pedro Almodóvar

Pedro Almodóvar (born on September 24, 1949 in Calzada de Calatrava, Spain) is a Spanish filmmaker. Since making his first commercial film in the 1980s, he has written, directed, acted and produced nearly 30 films. His films are centred around relationships that occur around improbable circumstances and are accompanied by melodrama and high camp.

Awards

• Best Director and the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999 for All About My Mother
• Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2003 for Talk to Her. Also, nominated for Best Director for the same film.
• BAFTA Film Award, Golden Kinnaree at the Bangkok Film Festival and Silver Condor by the Argentinean Film Critics Association for Best Foreign Film for Talk to Her in 2003.
• Also won the BAFTA for Talk to Her in 2003 for Best Screenplay and David Lean Award for best direction BAFTA for All About My Mother in 2000.
• BAFTA Film Award for Best Foreign Film for All About My Mother
• Academy Award for Best Foreign Film for All About My Mother

He has been granted the title of "Duke of Trémula" by the Spanish writer Javier Marías, claimant to the micronational title of king of Redonda.
