PC World (store)

PC World is a Britain's largest specialist chain of computer superstores. It is part of DSG International (formerly Dixons Group plc).

In-store PC Clinics offer on the spot advice and service. Component Centres offer a 'one-stop shop' for customers with advanced technical knowledge, providing a range of PC components and upgrade products at competitive prices.

Every PC World store has an in-store business centre staffed by business specialists. They offer local companies face-to-face help and advice with choosing the best IT solutions.

PC World has attracted criticism in a number of areas. Common complaints include:

• Lack of genuine computer knowledge amongst staff
• Sales-oriented culture that pressurises staff into promoting more expensive goods, regardless of suitability, and often with misleading or incorrect information
• Aggressive promotion of extended warranties that are considered poor value for money by many

Similar criticisms have been aimed at other retailers in the DSG group (including Dixons and Currys). However, it should be pointed out that other large electronics chains have also been subject to similar complaints.

As of 20 August 2005, there were 146 stores in the UK and six in the Republic of Ireland. Sales in 2004/2005 (including PC World Business) were £1,695 million.
