Payne's Prairie
Payne's Prairie is a region of savanna south of modern Gainesville, Florida. It became the stronghold of the Alachua band of the Seminole tribe under the great chief Ahaya the Cowkeeper in the 1700s. But, it is named for the Cowkeeper's eldest surviving son, Payne.
