Paul Thomson

Paul Robert Nester Thomson (born September 15, 1976, in Edinburgh, Scotland) is the drummer of the Glaswegian band Franz Ferdinand. Paul moved in his youth to Glasgow, "the cultural capital of Europe." He was always interested in music and had a great talent for playing intruments, be they guitars, bass guitars, drums, or keyboards. Glasgow was the perfect place for Paul to experiment with his love of music, for music was everywhere. He played in several bands including the fairly experimental, The Yummy Fur, and Pro Forma. While drumming in the Yummy Fur, he formed a friendship with their bassist, Alex Kapranos Huntley. After the Yummy Fur disbanded, they still kept in touch. As Paul moved in between bands, he worked several jobs, from DJing, to nude modeling at the Glasgow School of Art. At one point, he was so poor that for £250 he sold fat from his buttocks to pay his rent. Destiny would lead Paul Thomson to higher ground, however, as his Yummy Fur bandmate, Alex, asked him to play guitar, then drums for his new band, which would come to be known as Franz Ferdinand. Occasionally Paul and his wife Esther DJ at clubs as Polyester.
