Paul Robeson

Paul LeRoy Bustill Robeson (April 9, 1898 – January 23, 1976) was an American actor, athlete, singer, writer, and political and civil rights activist.

Marriage and children

He married Essie Cardozo Goode (1896-1965) in August of 1921. She worked as a pathology technician at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Essie was related to the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Cardozo. Together they had a single child: Paul Robeson II, born in 1927.
